American Legion Post 848 to host annual Veterans Day Out event

I■ Staff Reports / The Valley Chronicle
n April 2013, American Legion Post 848 hosted an event called Veterans Day Out. This event was started by a local veteran with an idea to treat Veterans at Loma Linda Veterans Hospital to a day out. These Veterans who are confined to the hospital grounds have little contact with the outside world; some have no family or financial means. On that day, they received a motorcycle escort as they were transported to American Legion Post 848 in San Jacinto. Once there, they received an Honor Guard welcome, a good meal and entertainment.
On April 8, American Legion Post 848 in San Jacinto will again be hosting the Veterans Day Out annual event. Veterans at Jerry L. Pettis Veterans Hospital in Loma Linda will be treated to a day out filled with entertainment, a good meal, and fun activities. Most importantly, to let them know the Inland Empire has not forgotten them.
Main Street in the downtown area will close during the event to allow spaces for vendors and some amazing vehicles from area car clubs. There will be activities for the whole family including a jumper for the children. The Veterans Mobil Counseling Center will also be on site to assist any veterans who may need information, counseling and resources. Come and join us as we pay tribute to those who have served this great nation.
The Veterans Day Out is a non-profit organization based out of San Jacinto California whose mission is simply to help our local Veterans within the Inland Empire by providing information and resources for those in need. They are treated with the utmost dignity, respect and mostly they are assured that they haven’t been forgotten.
