SJ PD responds to assault – male victim in critical care

The San Jacinto Police Department responded to a call in the 100 block of Sage Avenue in San Jacinto the evening of April 15. A male victim was involved in an assault, causing him to temporarily lose consciousness. He regained consciousness as officers arrived on scene. Medical personnel transported the victim to a nearby hospital. As of Sunday, the victim remained in critical care. This is an active investigation and anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact Investigator Medina or Investigator Janecka at the Hemet Sheriff’s Station at (951) 791-3400. Hemet sex offender faces life in prison after conviction

After only one day of deliberations, a jury convicted 69 year-old Robert Francis Baker of Hemet on Friday for attempted kidnapping to commit rape and other felonies. Baker is scheduled for sentencing on June 30 and faces life in prison. He represented himself in the trial stating at one point, “I didn’t have any time to do anything inappropriate to her.” After asking the girl twice if she wanted a ride, Investigator Ron McGowan, in town on business at that time, witnessed the interaction and asked the girl if she knew Baker. The girl stated that she did not know Baker, so McGowan intervened and detained Baker. Sheriff’s deputies responded then took over the investigation.  Baker is being held at the Southwest Detention Center without bail.


HPD arrests shoplifter on outstanding warrant

A woman was arrested by Hemet police officers on April 8 after police received a call from the local Walmart Neighborhood Market’s loss-prevention team regarding a suspected shoplifting. When officers arrived on location, they questioned the woman and discovered an outstanding warrant. The woman was arrested and taken to Hemet police station.  She was cited and released. The details of the outstanding warrant, as well as the woman’s identity, were not released by HPD.


Man flees SUV during traffic stop resulting in a foot pursuit and arrest

On April 11, an unidentified man pulled into the Hemet Motel parking lot located at 475 N. San Jacinto St. after being pulled over for a traffic stop. He jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Hemet police officers chased after the man while requesting assistance. Officers responded to assist and set up a perimeter. The man was apprehended a block away from where the chase initiated and he was arrested.
