Discussing the 1937 San Jacinto Landing of Transpolar Soviet Flight

Jack Warneke will talk about the historic 1937 landing of the Russians in San Jacinto at the Valle Vista Library. Appropriate for all ages on May 11 at 4 p.m. Admission is free. Vintage Hitchcock at Ramona Hillside Playhouse

Assistance League® of Hemacinto is hosting a benefit night at the Ramona Hillside Playhouse on Saturday, May 13. Wine and cheese reception is at 6:30 p.m. followed by the play “Vintage Hitchcock,” a live radio play. Tickets are $20 and proceeds benefit the chapter’s Teen Parent Program. Open auditions for “Virginia of the Valley”

The Ramona Hillside Players will hold open auditions for “Virginia of the Valley.” Auditions are May 15 and 16 and will begin at 7 p.m. at 27402 Ramona Bowl Road in Hemet. The play will be directed by Michael Tennant. The audition will consist of cold readings from the script. Please come prepared with a resume, head shot, pen/pencil, and list of conflicts. Hemet performance dates are July 7-9, 14-16 at Ramona Hillside Players. Lake Arrowhead performance dates are July 21 and 22 at The Tudor House. The Harmoneers’ Chorale Spring Concert “A Musical Potpourri”

The concert will be held on May 20 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Hemet located at 515 E. Kimball Ave. Tickets may be purchased at the door. Donations: $10.


Opening ceremonies for the Global War on Terror Wall of Remembrance

IMPACT Homelessness: A community forum

This free forum will be held on May 27 at 10 a.m. at Hemet Christian Assembly located at 602 E. St. John Place. Panelists will include Brenda Scott, executive director NAMI Mt San Jacinto; Stephanie Hopkins, formerly homeless; Linda Rogers, director of Valley ReStart Shelter, Inc; Steve Norman, pastor of Hemet Christian Assembly and founder of Hemet GateKeepers; Chief Dave Brown, Hemet Police Department; Stacie Olson, president/founder of Project Hope II; Audra Lee, CASA executive director; Lynne Brockmeier, administrative services manager for Housing, Riverside University Health Systems. The forum will be moderated by Councilwoman Karlee Meyer.


Veterans University at Palm Springs Convention Center

Congressman Raul Ruiz, M.D. (CA-36) will host the 2nd annual Veterans University on May 20 from 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. at the Palm Springs Convention Center. Program starts at 9 a.m. Tickets are free but space is limited. The event will include healthcare and disability benefits, mental health, transportation, and employment services for veterans. Peter Curtis Quartet to perform at DVAC

The Peter Curtis Quartet will perform at Diamond Valley Art Council’s Wine Art and Jazz Music Night, May 20, at 123 N. Harvard St. in Hemet. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7 p.m. Admission is $20 for members and $25 for non-members. Student tickets are $10 for online pre-sale and $15 at the door. Curtis has performed or recorded with notable jazz and blues musicians including Claudia Acuna, James Carter, Freddy Cole, Taj Mahal, Barbra Morrison and James Moody. He has played in some of the top jazz clubs in Southern California as well as in New York’s Carnegie Hall.


San Jacinto Chamber of Commerce Installation Dinner & Awards Banquet

Grandfathers For Golf offers free golf classes for kids

Grandfathers For Golf sponsors free golf lessons for children ages 7 to 18. Classes begin June 13 and all course fees and classes are free. Beginner’s classes will be held at Echo Hills Golf Course in Hemet and Golden Era Golf Course in San Jacinto. The first classes will be held on Tuesday, June 13 at Golden Era Golf Course, and Wednesday, June 14 at Echo Hills. Classes are from 7:30- 9 a.m. at both locations. Pee Wee classes (ages 5 to 6) will start at 8 a.m.- 9 a.m. Every child, in addition to nine classes, will receive a uniform shirt and hat and a set of golf clubs for them to keep.
