Approximately 2,600 veterans are buried at the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery and several veterans groups will be honoring those who sacrificed all. The cemetery office will be open to the public all weekend for family lot location assistance. On Saturday, May 27, beginning at 6 a.m., cemetery staff and Hemet ROTC will place an American flag on each veteran’s grave.
That same day starting at about 12:30, beginning with a small ceremony in front of the cemetery office, American Legion Post 848 from San Jacinto will place a carnation on each veteran’s grave. Contact Butch at (951) 305-2600 for more information.
On Monday, May 29, American Legion Post 53 from Hemet will hold a Memorial Day ceremony on the cemetery grounds starting at 9 a.m. Contact Matt Casey for details on the service at (951) 306-6611.
Friends of the San Jacinto Valley Cemetery will serve refreshments. The Friends, along with American Legion Post 53, will host a flag retirement drop-off location for those who have flags that need to be retired.
