The Hemet High baseball boys had more than just finals pressure on their shoulders Friday, May 19; they also faced Fullerton in the first round of CIF playoffs.
No score for the first three innings, but finally there was a breakthrough…for Fullerton, with the Indians picking up two runs at the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs managed a run of their own in the fifth inning, thanks to Nick Lundgren. But Adrian Lopez had other plans in the bottom of the seventh; he equalized the game, forcing extra innings.
Not content with having a desert town team beat them, the Indians took a third run at the top of the eighth and shut the Bulldogs down 3-2.
Coach Dave Parker felt his team gave it their all: “I’m really proud of our seniors; they won a CIF championship for the first time in 30 years,” said Parker. “The sophomores, they really battled well today. They just came one run short.”
