On Monday at approximately 10:15 p.m., Hemet Fire Department responded to an officer-involved collision at the intersection of Stetson Avenue and Kirby Street in front of Seven Hills Golf Resort.
When arriving on scene, crews located at least three vehicles involved; a silver Chrysler 300, a black Nissan Pathfinder, and a police cruiser SUV.
Two of the vehicles suffered major damage. The Chrysler collided with a light pole; the driver required a physical extrication and was transported to Hemet Ryan Airport, and then to Riverside University Health System’s trauma center in Moreno Valley via air ambulance with major injuries. The officer and the driver of the Pathfinder were transported to a local hospital via ground with minor to moderate injuries.
According to officials, the vehicles involved were allegedly racing when an officer attempted a traffic stop. The vehicles then collided.
Unidentified neighbors who rushed out of their homes as soon as they heard the crash, said police cars were on the scene immediately.
Another witness who requested not to be identified stated that it looked like the accident was probably the result of two cars racing down the avenue when a police car attempted to stop them. No other details are available at this time as the investigation is developing.
