The Hemet Elks Lodge No. 1740 presented four local high school seniors with scholarships at its recent meeting. Each student will receive a $500 scholarship upon registering at their respective colleges.
Students who received scholarships include: Madelyn Chong, who will study criminal justice at California State University, Chico; Mary Louise Esquerra, who will focus on interior design at California State University, Long Beach; Aaron Gonzalez, who will study psychology at California State University, San Marcos; Kassidy McKenna Lynch, who will be attending Chico State College, and wants to be a Physical Education teacher. Not able to attend the meeting, but also receiving $500 scholarships were Jennifer Cox and Destiny Hernandez.
Hemet Elks Lodge member Nancy Cook, a past exalted ruler, made a quilt that was raffled off as a fundraiser for the California/Hawaii Major Project. It was won by Karen Vargas, a member of Corona, California Lodge No. 2045.
The drawing was held at the homecoming dinner of state vice president Bobby Trask at the Yucaipa Lodge No. 2389. The quilt raffle raised more than $400 for the charity.
