DVAC plein air art show

Join DVAC from now through Oct. 7, from 11a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday thru Saturday, 123 N. Harvard St., Hemet. Free admission. “Plein Air” refers to works that are created in an outdoor setting. To participate, contact the Diamond Valley Arts Council, 951-652-3822.

Family Movie Nights at Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District

Valley-Wide Recreation is sponsoring “Movie Nights” at San Jacinto Park, 901 W. Esplanade Ave., San Jacinto, and at Valle Vista Park, 43935 E. Acacia Ave., Hemet. Movies begin at dusk. Please call the District Office at 951-654-1505 for more information. Movies are scheduled on the following days:

11th annual golf tournament

Hemet Elks Lodge No. 1740 is putting on its 11th annual golf tournament on Saturday, Sept. 2 at Golden Era Golf Course to help Kin Care. Kin Care is a program for children, infants to 18 years, who have been removed from the custody of their natural parents for any number of reasons. Many of these relatives are grandparents living on fixed incomes who now face the challenges of feeding, housing, clothing and educating these children. Tournament format is a four man scramble. $40 per player includes 18 holes of golf, cart and lunch. Sign up as a team or as an individual. For details, call Bill Cook at 951-255-8945.

Kids Art Jam

Instructors will have fun art activities for kids beginning at 10 a.m. on Sept. 2. Cost is $5 per child (materials included). Hemet Valley Art Association Gallery, 144 N. Harvard St., Hemet. Call 951-652-4592 for information.

State Senator Mike Morrell’s staff hosts office hours in Hemet

Office hours will be with staff on Tuesday, Sept. 5 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Hemet/San Jacinto Chamber of Commerce, 615 N. San Jacinto St. Hemet. Appointments are encouraged, 909-919-7731.
Team Hemet Baseball registration
The season runs from Sept. 9 – Nov. 19. Registration fee is $85. Individual registration includes a jersey and a hat. Team registrations are $400 (uniform not included.). For more information, please email admin@teamhemet.org.

Walk for Pulmonary Fibrosis

Join the Pulmonary Fibrosis Support Group on Saturday, Sept. 9 starting at 9 a.m. at Mary Henley Park in Hemet for a fundraiser walk. All donations will go to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

Science Under the Stars

Save Sept. 9 for Western Science Center’s annual fundraiser. This year’s guest speaker is paleontologist Eric Scott. There will be a live auction, music, and dancing, open bar, museum visit, fossil demonstration, and more. It’s $125/seat, or $1,000 for a table of eight. Meet and Greet Sheriff Capt. Leonard Purvis

Captain Purvis will be the guest speaker at the Sage Society of Hemet meeting on Sept. 12 from 1:30 – 3 p.m. at Miller Jones Mortuary, 1501 W. Florida Ave. Hemet. He is the new Commander of the Hemet Sheriff’s station. Capt. Purvis will take the audience through Sheriff Course 101, covering many aspects of crime, gang task force, safety for elders and much more. Q&A session to follow. Visitors welcome, 951-926-2143.

Soboba Pow Wow

Join Soboba as they host its 21st annual inter-tribal pow wow from Sept. 15-17. It is a family event with free admission and parking at the Soboba Event Center, 23333 Soboba Road in San Jacinto.

Community clean-up with Third District County Supervisor Chuck Washington

Golf Classic to benefit Hemet Public Library reading programs

From 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on Sept. 16, Golden Era Golf Course Community Center, 19871 Gilman Springs Road, San Jacinto, will host a golfing fundraiser to benefit the Hemet Public Library Adult Literacy and Children’s Reading Programs. Diamond Valley Writers Guild Book Fair

The Diamond Valley Writers Guild of Hemet will host an Author Book Fair on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place at the Diamond Valley Arts Council, 123 N. Harvard St., Hemet. Book fair attendees will have an opportunity to meet local authors and hear readings from their work.

Galway Downs

The horse show on Sept. 23–24 is a championship show for Peruvian Paso Horses hosted by the Mission Trails Peruvian Paso Horse Club. There is an 8 a.m. start time for both days.
