Trump presidency has opened Pandora’s Box

When Donald Trump became president of the United States, the people who voted for him – his mean spirited, low-minded base – surmised that he would become the cure-all elixir for what they perceived to be the nation’s ills.
Unfortunately for everyone, as he has demonstrated in the last seven, eight months, his election turned out to be a blunder of epic magnitude, in which time this thoughtless individual has opened Pandora’s Box, a prolific source of troubles, releasing into the world its contents of many evils.
Here in the small town of Hemet, Trump appears to be present in all of his perversity. The malevolence trapped inside Pandora’s Box has been freed to openly spread hatred, racism, neo-Nazism, bigotry, feelings of white supremacy and so many other components of destruction.
With hundreds of small towns like Hemet, the country is in big trouble. Last week a person wrote a letter to the editor of The Valley Chronicle stating that the only reason there was mayhem in Charlottesville is because the counter protestors were present. In other words, let the wicked KKK and neo-Nazis have a free hand in perpetuating their hatred without opposition in order to keep all these ignorant citizens at peace in their backward ways. I ask myself how many more like-thinking bigots like this live in this beautiful, peace loving town.
If this cowardly, senseless comment is representative of the people of Hemet – with its broken government and corrupt city officials – let me be the first to predict that the Trump disaster will further deteriorate and divide our community because “all that it takes for evil to prosper is for good people to do nothing.”

To do nothing is not an option when catastrophe is staring at you in the face. Cities like Charlottesville and Phoenix with Trump supporters ecstatically shouting their pleasure at his incendiary words much like the throngs that fell in love with Hitler’s tirades that brought the world to a calamity the proportions of which were heretofore unknown, causing the death of millions, or the masses in the Roman coliseum roaring their thumbs down that signaled the death of a human being or Jim Crow in the United States not so far removed from many of us when a man, woman and child were lynched solely because of the color of their skin.
For the sake of our children and grandchildren who are not responsible for this chaos, let’s all take time to conscientiously reflect on the situation, accept that it is time to participate in resolving the many problems that plague our social environment at the local and national levels.

Even though Pandora hastened to close the container that she opened, the entire contents had already escaped, except for one thing that lay at the bottom – “Hope.”
