The Hemet Unified School District provides a variety of programs to help students succeed. The district offers Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways, Dual Enrollment Classes, Advanced Placement (AP) classes, AVID at all school levels, and a variety of other programs to help students find a school or career field they are passionate about, said HUSD Public Information Officer Alex Sponheim.
“Learning about different programs and other valuable information can be daunting to a parent, which is why we are excited to introduce to our families the opening of Hemet Unified Parent Resource Center,” said Sponheim.
The Parent Resource Center can help parents become more knowledgeable in the educational process and what the district offers students, and provide them with knowledge to continue to support their students throughout their educational journey.
The center will host a series of classes which include: English as a Second Language (ESL), Nutrition, and Positive Parenting; they are also working on providing such classes as Spanish, technology, and informative classes such as college information and high school graduation requirements.
“The Parent Resource Center is a place where parents will learn many new things that will build their personal capacity; they will collaborate with other parents; they will learn how to be advocates for their child(ren); and ultimately, they will have increased positive outcomes for their child(ren),” said Carlos Navarro, director of the resource center.
“It is important to provide a space that helps provide support for families that will in turn benefit our students,” said Superintendent Christi Barrett. “We have a moral obligation to ensure our students succeed and being able to provide a place where parents could access valuable information and be more involved in their child’s education will provide yet another level of support for our students. I am excited to see the positive impact it will have on our students’ educational journey.”
