On Saturday, December 9, the Hemet Harmonizers hosted a fun-filled Christmas Sing-Along at the Historic Hemet Theatre. Joining the Hemet barbershop chorus for the event were the Temecula Wine Valley Harmonizers as well as choirs from Hemet High School, West Valley High School and Temecula’s Great Oak High School.
The event began with Terry Hambly, dressed as Santa Claus, leading the audience in singing an array of popular carols, with lyrics projected onto the movie screen. Next, the high school choirs took the stage to perform a wonderful assortment of holiday songs. Then the Temecula Wine Valley Harmonizers took the stage, followed by the Hemet Harmonizers.
Amazingly, the entire concert was performed A capella — without instrumental accompaniment, except for an occasional sleigh bell.

Comments from the audience were unanimous in their praise. In particular, the quality of the high school choirs amazed everyone. It was a great tribute to the quality of the choir programs in our area schools. Hamby hopes to get even more local schools involved in the sing-along event next year. In addition, a challenge was issued for a barbershop competition in the coming year, complete with cash prizes for participating choirs.
“Santa,” Terry Hamby, is well known in the local area for events where he appears as Santa, even in photo sessions where local residents bring their children or pets to have holiday photos taken with Santa. This year, the photo sessions will take place at the HHT through Christmas Eve. Prices start at $15 for a 5×7 print, with packages and flash drive options available. Check out the Facebook page for JJBrown Photography for hours and prices, or call (951) 834-4336. A portion of all proceeds will be donated to the HHT Building Fund.
Tickets are still available for “Rocky Horror New Year’s Eve” on Sunday Dec. 31. Join the HHT Shadow Cast for the craziest New Year’s Eve in town. Event begins with an orientation at 9:30 p.m., followed by a 10 p.m. screening of “Rocky Horror Picture Show.” Tickets are $15, including a bag of props (no outside props allowed).
Visit www.HistoricHemetTheatre.com for a full lineup of events or stop by the ticket office Monday thru Friday 11a.m. – 6 p.m. (951) 658-5950.
