The Hemet High School theater played host to two combined Christmas choir concerts on Monday

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and hearing the singing voices of our community’s youngest vocalists makes it curiously more wonderful. Some of those voices were heard at Hemet High School on Monday evening, Dec. 11.
The HHS theater played host to two combined choir concerts, entitled, “Sounds of the Season.” The first concert was comprised of choir groups from Bautista Creek and Hemet Elementary schools, while the beginning and advanced choirs were from Acacia Middle School. The elementary schoolers progressed through childhood favorites including “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” leading up to the middle schoolers who led audiences through the musical version of the reason for the season: The birth of Christ.
The second concert was composed of choirs from Valle Vista Elementary School and Dartmouth Middle School, complemented by Hemet High’s very own chamber singers. The combined ‘feeder’ performances were headed up by Acacia choir director, Christine Simpson.
“We like to do combined concerts so the elementary kids can see not only the other elementary schools in town,” said Simpson. “But they can also see what they have to look forward to when they go to middle school.”
As Hemet El’s first winter concert since their remodel, this concert was very special to music director, Erin Von Pingle.
“When I came in here, I’ve had to build a music program from the ground up,” explained Von Pingle. “And obviously, doing the choir was something that I was really excited about doing because one of my biggest backgrounds is through music. It’s really fun to start at the beginning and start to develop this program. I’m really excited and want this program to be very exciting for the kids.”
Simpson and all of her helping hands would like to thank Hemet High School administration for playing host to this wonderful concert, and to Mr. Daniel West who moved “at lightning speed” to set lights and mic up this year. Also, to those who attended and performed, let us hope the Christmas spirit stays with you in the new year.
