Two wars within a decade changed America forever April 12, 1945, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt who had led the nation through the Great Depression and World War II was dead. ■ Rusty Strait / Senior Reporter The sudden death of President Roosevelt hit the country like a strike of lightning, although it was obvious he had been ill for quite some time. It was as though the nation’s family patriarch had passed during the night.
