Hemet Public Library’s 1st comic convention
The convention will be held Jan. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Hemet Public Library, 300 E. Latham Ave. Everything is free with your library card and includes manga drawing and storyboarding classes, superhero story time, costume contests, artists alley, and visits from vendors. The southland Ghostbusters will also be there.


Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship
On Jan. 13, the Knights of Columbus are holding their Free Throw Championship event for boys and girls ages 9 – 14 at the Valley Wide Gym located at 43935 Acacia Ave., Valle Vista. Registration will be at 9 a.m. and competition at 10 a.m. No registration after 10 a.m. Age eligibility is determined by age of the contestant as of January 1, 2018. Proof of age and written parental consent is required. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation in the event with winners progressing through local, district and state competitions. We need you to sing with us
The Harmoneers Chorale, entertaining music lovers in the Hemet area since 1977, begins rehearsals on Monday, Jan. 15, for their May 20 Spring Concert. If you can work Monday mornings into your schedule, you are invited to join this fine chorale. Rehearsals are 9:15 a.m. to noon Monday mornings at The First Presbyterian Church, 515 E. Mt. San Jacinto College Theater Arts Department, Menifee Valley Campus, Announces Open Auditions: “Over the Tavern”
Auditions will be held at 6 p.m. on Jan. 17 at the Menifee Valley Campus Lab Theater, Rm. 207, 28237 La Piedra Rd., 92584. “Over the Tavern” is a warm and hilarious look at family, growing up, and God. With a big heart and belly laughs, “Over the Tavern” has been called the nearest Catholic equivalent to Neil Simon’s Jewish-American “Lost in Yonkers” and his Brighton Beach trilogy. To audition for MSJC’s spring semester musical, prepare a comedic or dramatic monologue. Performance dates are April 19–22. Mt. San Jacinto College Department of Music, San Jacinto Campus,
Announces Auditions: College Singers and Chamber Choir
Auditions will be held Jan. 18 and 25 at 4 p.m. at the San Jacinto Campus, Rm. 1614, 1499 N. State St., 92583. Students, faculty, and the community are encouraged to bring a prepared piece of any genre to the audition. All levels of experience are welcome. Hemet Senior Computer Club
The club meets the third Monday of every month from 10 a.m.–noon at Valley-Wide Valle Vista Recreation Center. The club is open to anyone in the Hemet/San Jacinto area who would like to learn and share knowledge of computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. Valley-Wide Recreation Center, 43935 E. Celebrate Recovery meets are held every week at the following locations:

Bark for Books: First Friday of every month from 4–5 p.m. Practice reading skills by reading out loud to certified therapy dogs!
Book Club: Director’s Bookshelf meets the third Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. in the director’s office.
Diamond Valley Writers Guild: meets the fourth Saturday of every month from 9:30–11:30 a.m.
Hemet Library hosts Children’s Winter Read-a-thon
Now through Jan. 13, children ages 3–14 can read five books and receive a reward. Participants can earn up to three rewards. For more information, call 951-765-2440. The library is located at 300 E. Latham Ave.
