Hemet Woman’s Club announces winners of its Youth Writing Contest

The Hemet Woman’s Club is pleased to announce the winners of its third annual Youth Writing Contest. The event invited local students from grades 5 through 12 to write either an original essay, or a poem that describes the contributions by women and the impact they have had on the world. Approximately 140 entries were received and evaluated by an independent panel of eight judges. The following students were recognized and awarded cash prizes along with a certificate of recognition:
Harmony Elementary, grade 5: First Place Essay ($100) was awarded to Marco Fragoso; Second Place Essay ($50) awarded to Jayla Moss; and Third Place Essay ($25) awarded to Essence Herd.
Diamond Valley Middle School, grades 6-8: First Place Poetry ($100) was awarded to LeeAnn Storm; First Place Essay ($100) awarded to Noah Lewen; Second Place Essay ($50) awarded to Delaney Dow; and Third Place Essay ($25) awarded to Taylor Cortez.
West Valley High School, grades 9-12: First Place Poetry ($100) was awarded too Aaron Wu; Second Place Poetry ($50) awarded to Julio Villarruel; Third Place Poetry ($25) awarded to Kalia Nevarez; First Place Essay ($100) awarded to Iveth Villanueva; Second Place Essay ($50) awarded to Thalia Castañeda; and Third Place Essay ($25) awarded to Veronica Castro.
The five first place winners’ entries will be sent to the De Anza district level of competition for the California Federation of Women’s Clubs Youth Writing Contest, and winners there will move on to the state level.
