Three champion sports teams of Hemet Unified School District were recognized at the district office on Tuesday, Jan. 9 for each of their respective undefeated, or nearly undefeated, Fall seasons.
The Hemet Unified School board honored the Idyllwild Middle School girls Volleyball team, League Champs for the Inland Valley League, 10-0; Dartmouth Middle School girls volleyball, the Valley League Champs, 8-0; and Rancho Viejo Middle School boys flag football team, 7-1.
“This is the first time we’ve been recognized in front of district,” said Michelle Weisen, head coach for Idyllwild. “I’m Very proud. The girls seemed like they were very appreciative, and I think that makes them want to work even harder because they were appreciated and recognized themselves.”
Weisen started coaching at Idyllwild Middle School about six years ago, and enjoyed it until she was diagnosed with cancer, forced to take a couple of years off from coaching. Now, cancer-free, she is back at Idyllwild and is feeling better than ever.
“This just gives me the drive to keep it up,” she added. “I’m going to keep fighting hard, that’s for sure!”
Weisen also thanked her husband and HUSD athletic director, Jim Weisen for putting the ceremony together.
“We are in a smaller league, and we normally don’t get recognized for something like this, so it was nice that we could be apart of it,” concluded Weisen.
