David Hendren exhibition, Land of Lens at MSJC
The Mt. San Jacinto College Art Gallery is proud to announce a new solo exhibition by David Hendren titled Land of Lens on display until Feb. 22. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the San Jacinto Campus Art Gallery, Bldg. 1400, 1499 N. State St., San Jacinto. This new exhibition features larger than life mixed-media figurative abstract sculptures. Hendren has had solo shows at Five Car Garage, Meliksetian/Briggs, Anat Ebgi Gallery, Public Fiction and Kim Light/Lightbox. He received a MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.


MSJC and Cal State San Marcos, Temecula hold information sessions

Superheroes lecture series
Mt. San Jacinto College and the Western Science Center will cosponsor a spring lecture series titled, Superheroes and Why We Need Them! The series will be held at the Western Science Center Theater, 2345 Searl Parkway, Hemet. Doors open at 6:30, and talks begin at 7 p.m. Seating is limited.
For WSC members the lectures are free; students w/ID, $5; non-members, $8. Following are the dates and lecture titles:

“Contrasting Approaches to Moral Duty in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight,’” with David Smith, MSJC Philosophy Department
April 5
“Leaping Buildings: How Superheroes Speak Us into Meaning,” with Eric Atkinson, MSJC English Department

Hemet Sunset Rotary presents Comedy Night
The Sunset Rotary in conjunction with Bubba’s Comedy is presenting a Sweet Hearts Comedy Night on Friday, Feb. 16 at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 and are available at the door, from DVAC, the Sunset Rotary Website and Purple Pass. The evening features host Bubba Butler, headliner Anita Milner plus Kevin Davis, I.T. Turner, Morey Sherman and Julión Gonzalez. There will be door prizes and raffles, and alcohol will be available. The show is being presented at DVAC located at 123 N. Harvard St., Hemet.


National Medal of Honor Ceremony
National Medal of Honor Day will be celebrated locally at 1 p.m. March 17 with a ceremony at the National Medal of Honor Memorial, Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside. Congress signed legislation in 1990 designating, March 25 as National Medal of Honor Day. Riverside National Cemetery is home to a National Medal of Honor Memorial, one of four sites recognized nationally to be designated as a National Medal of Honor Memorial Sites. Following the ceremony, attendees are encouraged to visit the gravesites of the five Medal of Honor recipients buried at the cemetery and tour the Medal of Honor Memorial, the Fallen Soldiers/Veterans Memorial, and the Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Memorial. The event is free and open to the public. No RSVPs are required.


Hemet Senior Computer Club
The club meets the third Monday of every month from 10 a.m.–noon at Valley-Wide Valle Vista Recreation Center. The club is open to anyone in the Hemet/San Jacinto area who would like to learn and share knowledge of computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. Valley-Wide Recreation Center, 43935 E. Acacia Ave., Hemet.


Celebrate Recovery meetings
Celebrate Recovery meets are held every week at the following locations:
Mondays, 6:30 p.m., San Jacinto Assembly of God, 300 W. First St., San Jacinto. Tuesdays, 6 p.m., Hemet Christian Assembly, 602 St. John Place, Hemet. Tuesdays, 7 p.m., Community Christian Church, 41762 Stetson Ave., Hemet. Saturdays, 6 p.m., Hemet Valley Baptist Church, 1480 N. Kirby St., San Jacinto.


Hemet Public Library
The following activities are held at the Hemet Public Library, 300 E. Latham Ave.
Bark for Books: First Friday of every month from 4–5 p.m. Practice reading skills by reading out loud to certified therapy dogs!
Book Club: Director’s Bookshelf meets the third Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. in the director’s office.
Diamond Valley Writers Guild: meets the fourth Saturday of every month from 9:30–11:30 a.m.


7th San Jacinto Women’s Conference
The conference will be held from 7:45 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 at The Country Club at Soboba Springs, 1020 Soboba Rd, San Jacinto. Register online at www.sjvwc.com. The entry fee $55. Reserve a table for 10 for $450. There will be motivational speakers, local vendors, prizes, breakfast and lunch, shopping and more. Space is limited.


Widowed Persons Activities Club
Monthly meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. on the second Friday of each month at the Simpson Center, 305 E. Devonshire Ave., Hemet (behind the library). The group often has keynote speakers on topics of interest to members. The club has 50/50 drawings, card bingo, Chinese auctions, etc. To ensure a good fit, prospective members are encouraged to try up to three activities before joining.
