Fatal auto-pedestrian collision in San Jacinto
A woman pedestrian was struck and killed by an auto last Friday night in San Jacinto, and police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Deputies were called shortly after 11 p.m., March 9 to the intersection of San Jacinto and Esplanade avenues on reports of a fatal traffic accident, according to a Riverside County Sheriff/Coroner Press Release. The initial investigation indicated a Nissan Versa was traveling westbound on Esplanade Avenue while a pedestrian was walking north on San Jacinto. According to witness statements, the Nissan had a green traffic light, and the pedestrian crossed Esplanade Avenue against the DO NOT WALK signal, police recounted. According to witness statements, the pedestrian stepped directly into the path of the Nissan and was struck, police reported.
The pedestrian, whose name was withheld pending notification of next of kin, was taken to an area hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The intersection was closed for about three hours while the collision was being investigated.
