Easter may have fallen on April Fools’ Day this year, but it’s no joke that the Easter Bunny showed up at the Diamond Valley Sports Complex, Saturday, March 31 for the 30th annual Valley-Wide “Bunny Hop.”
There, hundreds of kids and their parents showed up to meet the Bunny and his “Gabby Goat” friend, and took home what he brought for them this year, free of charge. Happily, many of them dressed their best for Easter.
A hoppy group of 25 volunteers and eight staff members showed up to help the Bunny unload and distribute nearly 17,000 eggs across four baseball fields for four different age groups (0-3, 4-6,7-9 and 10-12). Those volunteers were coordinated by the Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District, in conjunction with the Easter Bunny, of course. This year marks their third time setting up in the fields.

Which one of these eggs will hatch a grand prize voucher?

Recreation coordinator Missy Gallaway describes this Saturday egg hunt as a no-frills way to bring families together. “It’s Easter, it’s fun, it’s a beautiful [Saturday], and it’s something that Valley-Wide’s giving back to the community,” said Gallaway.
As if finding delectable treats inside those eggs weren’t enough, several youngsters found vouchers inside select eggs which won them Easter baskets full of goodies, brought to the egg hunt by Altura Credit Union. The Easter Bunny needs cash flow to do this, you know.
Parents also had a chance to win something themselves, albeit by means of the traditional standby raffle ticket.
Finally, Gallaway wants to give an Easter shoutout to coworker Keri Price, Ann Gustavo, Maria Vivanco, Hemet, Tahquitz and West Valley High Schools, the various community groups who chipped in and the Valley-Wide staff for their roles in bringing everything together. And hello from us at the Valley Chronicle! We hope all of you had a very Happy Easter.
