Scout Troops from Moreno Valley took to Golden Era Golf Course to raise funds for scout camp

The Boy Scout slogan is “do a good turn daily,” which means they’re encouraged to do something good for others every day of the week. What did local scouts do for others on Saturday, April 14? They provided refreshment for Golden Era Golf Course facilities and its golfers.
Scoutmaster Phil Ng says he and his boys from Troop 395 in Moreno Valley have been doing this fundraiser for a while now. “This is our ninth year doing this fundraiser. We’re grateful for [Golden Era] to allow us to come use it for the ninth year,” said Ng. “We raise money for our troop for their summer camp activities. This year we’re going up to Big Bear to spend a week up there, working on merit badges…things like waterspouts and whatnot.”
Ng also says his troop goes to different camps each year, and the activities change with the venue.
Troop 395 worked in conjunction with Troop 495 this year, also from Moreno Valley.
The scouts took part in a special service project, which had two parts. Part one was a snack stand—set up as both a means of providing refreshments to golfers who worked up an appetite and a way of raising funds for Scout Camp and related needs.
According to Ng, scouts spent the morning cleaning around the flower beds and trees, wiping down the wood floors and chairs and doing some work around the course’s entrance sign.
The troops also auctioned items off, which in previous years included big screen televisions and other gadgets donated by local groups, said Ng.
Ng expresses his gratitude to donors, scouts and golfers who helped make this year’s fundraiser a success.
The list of donors and amount raised were not available at press time.
