A Hemet man has been shot dead, and his wife is in custody after authorities caught her heading for the Mexican border, according to police.
The victim was identified as Hector Navarrete, 41, whose body was found at a residence in the 900 block of Silver Dust Trail, according to Hemet Police Lt. Eddie Pust.
Police were called to the residence shortly after 6 a.m. Monday, and medical personnel pronounced Navarrette dead at the scene from an apparent gunshot wound. Hemet Police Investigations Bureau responded and subsequently took over the investigation.
After detectives surveyed the scene they put two and two together, they surmised that Navarrete’s wife may have been involved. Within hours, 42-year-old Beatriz Navarrete was detained in Imperial County as she was driving toward the U.S.-Mexico border, Pust reported.
Police say this is still an ongoing investigation, and anyone with information can call the Hemet Police Anonymous Tip Line (951)765-3897 or Anonymous Tip Line (866) 640-TIPS (8477) or visit Online Tips at www.crimestoppersplus.org, or on Facebook at www.facebook.com/ValleyCrimeStoppersPlus.
