The Annual Scholarship Awards were presented at The Village Retirement Community on Tuesday, June 26. The award recognizes those committed to strengthening future leaders in the community and supporting the pursuit of higher education amongst The Village employees.
The Village Scholarship Program, an independent 501(c) 3 non-profit organization, is made up of 10 Village Residents who meet monthly for the sole purpose of promoting and scheduling activities that support the scholarship fund. The Scholarship Board has been awarding academic scholarships and grants to worthy employees of The Village Retirement Community and The HealthCare Center who are actively pursuing their educational advancement. The board has been active since 1995 and is considered a separate entity from The Village Retirement Community.
Qualified applicants must be currently employed by The Village Retirement Community or The HealthCare Center. Full time and part-time students enrolled in a two or four year college or university are also eligible to apply. In addition to the academic scholarships, the board also provides educational grants for those students who are participating in professional endeavors outside the traditional university system. The program and the generosity of the residents at The Village denote the special relationships that are formed with the staff.
This year, the Scholarship Board presented 16 academic scholarships and grant awards that tally in an excess of $36,000 collectively.
“It’s become more than simply giving back to these caring and professional individuals who we grow to know and support in their life endeavors. We really care. If we can help them through the scholarship and grant awards, we gain much satisfaction in knowing that we’ve been a small part of helping them to make productive life decisions,” said Judy, the current president of The Village Scholarship Program.
The Village is an active, age 60 and up Life Plan Community (formerly a CCRC) offering independent living, assisted living, and skilled nursing all on the same campus. The HealthCare Center is open to the public. The Village offers a variety of services and amenities, dining venues, and wellness programs and it is located at 2200 W. Acacia Ave. in Hemet.
