A man is dead and another is in custody after a deadly shooting occurred last Friday within the Stoney Mountain Ranch neighborhood of Hemet.
On July 13, around 8 p.m., the Hemet Police Department was dispatched to a residence in the 1100 block of Stepstone Court after reports of shots being fired. When officers arrived, they discovered the gruesome scene of a male victim shot in the head. The victim was later confirmed by HPD as 18 year-old Sequoyah Gavin.
First responders did everything they could to revive Gavin but, unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. According to a press release from HPD, “Life-saving measures were immediately provided to the victim who was pronounced deceased shortly after.”
Investigating officials acted quickly combing the surrounding area on the ground and by air for a suspect who reportedly had fled the scene. On Tuesday, July 17, the Hemet Police Investigations Bureau was able to arrest 22 year-old Hemet resident, Vincent Calderon, for the fatal shooting. According to HPD, Calderon’s bail is set at $1 million and an inmate search on the Riverside County Sheriff’s website confirms he is currently being held at Southwest Detention Center.
At this time, the incident is still under investigation and any information regarding this incident should be reported to Hemet Police Investigator D. Klinzing at (951) 765-2423.
