Pedestrian killed crossing dark street

■ By Taj Shorter / City Reporter On the evening of July 12, a pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing a poorly lit part of Menlo Ave. in Hemet. The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Jesse Herrera according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Coroner Report. When Hemet Police and Fire crew arrived at the scene, they discovered Herrera lying in the street and a GMC pick-up parked nearby. Emergency responders immediately took necessary measures to save Herrera’s life but, ultimately, he was pronounced dead on the scene at approximately 9:55 p.m. after succumbing to his injuries.
