GSL drew 38 teams to the Diamond Valley Lake Sports complex during the weekend of July 14-15 for its 2018 Adult Slowpitch Double Elimination Competition.
In charge of the event was Vic Rivera of SoCal GSL: “GSL has been in existence since 2011, I’ve been running tournaments since 2008. I had my own organization called (Ultimate Sports Alliance).” Ultimate Sports Alliance was absorbed into GSL when it was founded in 2011.
Teams came from as far north as Kern County all the way down to San Diego and everywhere in between. The competition also saw women’s teams, as well as senior citizens coming on out to show the younger crowd how it’s done. Rivera also mentioned that Sunday featured a coed competition!
The top teams in each segment competed for a grand prize of $1,000, with second place winning $400 and discounts for future GSL events for third and fourth places.
Rivera points out that the DVL complex not only has plenty of space to play ball but also plenty of space to chill out after the games: “We have allocations all over Southern California, but this weekend we got allocated this field… It’s a drive for some teams, but teams like the ability to just kick it out in the parking lot and barbecue and just bring their whole family and not worry about… being bothered at all by the police or the park people.”
Rivera summed up the complex as a fun, family-friendly location.
GSL wishes to thank their sponsors, including Elite Sports, CastDesignCo.com, HT Sports, Big League Dreams and Sportsplex USA. gives special thanks to Valley Wide Recreation and Park District for their cooperation in this tournament.
For any teams who wish to participate in future events, registration is still open for their Cash Series Event in San Clemente on Saturday, Aug. 4. Details can be found online at socalgsl.com, or email george.davidson@usssa.com
