Wednesday Night Dances at Hemet West
Throughout August and September, the following bands will be playing for the popular senior Wednesday Night Dances at Hemet West, 5001 W. Florida Ave., Hemet.

Sept 12 Rainbow Cottage.
Sept 19 Stage Robbers.
Sept 26 Dark. No dance.

The Wednesday night dances are from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Admission is $6 per person, proper attire is required, and alcohol is not allowed. Opportunity drawings offer free tickets. Tables will have snacks, pitchers of water, and freshly brewed tea and coffee is available. For further information about these dances, contact Kathy Perry at 951-692-0891.


Hemet Elks Lodge #1740 Car Show/Boutique benefit homeless veterans
The Hemet Elks Lodge #1740 at 1305 W. Florida Ave. will hold a car show and boutique fair Sept. 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to raise money for homeless veterans. The event is open to the public. Attendees are asked to bring food donations for vets. Suggested items include bottled water, crackers, nutrition bars, fruit cups, pouches of tuna and raisins.
Hamburgers and hotdogs will be for sale for $5 along with potato salad, baked beans, chips. These will be available from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Cookies and slices of cakes will be on sale. There will also be raffles for items from local businesses that include O’Reilly’s, America’s Tires, Firestone, Hemet Car Wash, Stater Bros., Pep Boys, Tommy’s Car Wash, NAPA, Cagliero Nursery and Midas. Other businesses have been approached.

Valley Vocal Ensemble
Attention Singers, the holiday season is approaching. The Valley Vocal Ensemble is looking for new talent, and you could be it. Join the fun group as they start rehearsing holiday music for a Christmas concert. Evening rehearsals will begin on Monday evening Aug 27 from 7 – 10 p.m. Auditions for new singers will be on Aug 27 and Sept 10. Recovery Happens, Riverside, Sept. 14
As part of National Recovery Month, Riverside University Health System-Behavioral Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment, will celebrate those in recovery from mental health and substance abuse at the annual Recovery Happens 2018 event from 11:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, at Riverside Fairmount Park, 2601 Fairmount Blvd. The event will recognize those who work daily to provide prevention, treatment, and services, and aims to empower others in need of treatment to seek help. The public is invited to come join in the celebration! Sierra Dawn Rotary
Sierra Dawn Rotary is a part of Sunset Rotary and are always looking for new members. Meetings are the second Monday of the month at noon and the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at Clubhouse #3 on the corner of Lyon and San Marcos. The club has donated school supplies, jackets and shoes to Jacob Wiens Elementary, raised money for the San Jacinto Valley Academy Interact club and painted the red curbs in Sierra Dawn. Hemet Senior Computer Club
The club meets the third Monday of every month from 10 a.m.–noon at Valley-Wide Valle Vista Recreation Center. The club is open to anyone in the Hemet/San Jacinto area who would like to learn and share knowledge of computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. Valley-Wide Recreation Center, 43935 E. Acacia Ave., Hemet.


Celebrate Recovery meetings
Celebrate Recovery meets are held every week at the following locations:
Mondays, 6:30 p.m., San Jacinto Assembly of God, 300 W. First St., San Jacinto. Tuesdays, 6 p.m., Hemet Christian Assembly, 602 St. John Place, Hemet. Tuesdays, 7 p.m., Community Christian Church, 41762 Stetson Ave., Hemet. Saturdays, 6 p.m., Hemet Valley Baptist Church, 1480 N. Kirby St., San Jacinto.


Hemet Public Library
The following activities are held at the Hemet Public Library, 300 E. Latham Ave.

• Bark for Books: First Friday of every month from 4–5 p.m. Practice reading skills by reading out loud to certified therapy dogs!
• Book Club: Director’s Bookshelf meets the third Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. in the director’s office.
• Diamond Valley Writers Guild: meets the fourth Saturday of every month from 9:30–11:30 a.m.


Widowed Persons Activities Club
Monthly meetings are held at 1:30 p.m. on the second Friday of each month at the Simpson Center, 305 E. Devonshire Ave., Hemet (behind the library). The group often has keynote speakers on topics of interest to members. The club has 50/50 drawings, card bingo, etc. To ensure a good fit, prospective members are encouraged to try up to three activities before joining. Jack in the Box Car Cruise
This Car Cruise’s wheels keep on turning, so if you want to roll on in with your ‘roadrunner’ or just see what the neighbors are driving, you’re invited! The Car Cruise happens each Friday night at 7 p.m. For more info, you can call the Inland Empire Cruisin’ hotline at (866) 924-4490.
Also, an upcoming Lowrider Style Car Show will be held in San Jacinto on Sept. 15. Food, raffles, and music will be plentiful for enthusiasts. Awards will be given to the best entries from each decade, both two-and four-wheeled. For info, call Robert Sepulveda at (951) 665-9498.
