The Hemet Sunset Rotary jointed the San Jacinto Valley Academy Interact Club at the school’s annual Harvest Festival on Nov. 11. The Harvest Festival was held at the school from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Interact students sold grilled cheese sandwiches, chips and glow hair clips. They made over $250 because the Sunset Rotary donated all the supplies plus two experienced cooks, Curt Welshon and Brian Flanagan.

Interact is a high school club that is affiliated with Rotary International. The SJVA chapter is guided by Samantha Lazear. Interact teaches children the importance of giving to their community through service. The SJVA chapter of Interact is very active in the community, serving meals at Sierra Dawn Estates to help the Sierra Dawn Rotary, and running the candy trail at the Ramona Bowl “Boo at the Bowl.”
Students at many schools today are encouraged to get community service hours to make them better citizens, but Interact students are encouraged to embrace the Rotary four-way test and believe the motto “Service before Self.” Interact clubs are always affiliated with an active Rotary Club and Hemet Sunset is proud to be their sponsor. Hemet Sunset Rotary meets every Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the Diamond Valley Arts Center on Harvard street and visitors are always welcome. The Sunset Rotary is also very active in the community, having just finished their first Festival of Frights Halloween event as well as doing several comedy nights and a murder mystery dinner theatre which raised funds for the Ramona Bowl Americana trail. They recently adopted Florida Avenue for trash pickup and will be doing Thanksgiving baskets for local schools.
