A 25-year-old Hemet woman was killed early Sunday, Jan. 27, when the the driver of the car in which she was riding apparently fell asleep as the couple was headed back to Hemet early in the morning along Domenigoni Parkway, according to the Riverside County Sheriff.
Cindy Oropeza-Soto was reportedly partially ejected from the vehicle in which she and David Alejandro Rostrosolis, 23, were riding after Rostrosolis reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, and the car drifted into the roadway’s center median. When the vehicle hit the median curb, the impact caused the car to spin around and flip onto its side, partially ejecting Oropeza-Soto from the backseat where she had been seated without a seatbelt, according to news reports.
The crash occurred at 4:28 a.m. just east of Lindenberger Road within the city limits of Menifee, deputies reported. The couple was in the eastbound lane when the crash occurred.
Ironically, Rostrosolis was not injured and refused medical attention after the mishap that took the life of his passenger. Oropeza-Soto remained alive for several hours allowing AMR first responders to rush her to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center where she died about four hours after the crash, according to the Riverside County Coroner’s office.
A field sobriety test led deputies to believe Rostrosolis was under the influence of alcohol, and they arrested him for investigation of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence of alcohol causing great bodily injury. He was taken to Cois Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta but released later Sunday after posting bond on $75,000 bail, according to jail records.
The incident is being investigated by the Menifee Sheriff’s Station traffic reconstruction team, and deputies are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to call the station at 951-210-1000.
