On Saturday, Mar. 9, John Denver fans will be on hand at the Historic Hemet Theatre for the return of Jim Curry and his popular show “The Music of John Denver.” But the crowd will also be thrilled to be on hand for two exciting foundation announcements that same night.
This will be the fourth performance by Curry in the foundation’s six years of operations, starting back in 2014 with one of the first concerts to pay tribute to the legends of classic rock and country music. From a young age, Jim was known for looking and sounding like the country music legend. After Denver’s untimely death in 1997, Jim took on the task of preserving the legacy of the country music legend, singing the vocals for the TV movie about John Denver and creating a tribute concert that has taken him around the world. The show includes a series of stunning graphics projected behind him as Denver fans relive all the classic hits, including “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Rocky Mountain High,” “Annie’s Song” “ Sunshine on My Shoulders” and “Thank God I’m A Country Boy.”
The evening will also feature the first public reveal of the new carpet and concession area in the renovated lobby. This will take the lobby renovation to 90 percent of its transformation, with only the glass chandeliers, wall murals and box office left for completion. The $50k lobby renovation is part of a $1.5 million project to preserve the vintage movie house as a community arts center, expanding programming and updated systems, while preserving the art deco charm of the 1921 theatre.
Funds for the project are being raised through a campaign called the Century Club. Donors will be included in a permanent plague that will be featured in the lobby, honoring those who enable the treasured valley landmark to be transformed in time for its 100th birthday in 2021.
Also that evening, the Foundation will announce the eight concerts that will comprise the lineup for the 2019 Season Two Tribute Mania Concert Series, starting in April 2019. Ticket prices will remain at $22 presale and $25 day of show. Tickets for all shows will be available that night as well as a limited number of season tickets for each show. Season tickets are available to patrons purchasing tickets to a least four shows in the season. Season tickets are $20 each and come with VIP Early Seating, 15 minutes before General Admission. There is a high demand for the limited number of season tickets, usually selling out within three weeks.
Other upcoming concerts include Tribute to AC/DC (Saturday 3/23), Tribute to George Strait (Friday 3/29), The Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons Tribute (Saturday 4/6), Tribute to Elvis Presley (Friday 4/12) and Tribute to The Doors (Saturday 4/27).
Tickets for Tribute Mania and Friday Nite Live shows are $22 presale and $25 day of show. Showtime is 7 p.m., with doors open at 6:15 p.m. Information on all theatre events is available at www.HistoricHemetTheatre.com or by calling the ticket office, (951) 658-5950.
