Budding Hemet writers taste the win

These creative kids from West Valley High School took home cash prizes for their winning entries in the Hemet Woman’s Club Youth Writing Contest.

The Hemet Woman’s Club announced the winners of its second annual Youth Writing Contest. The event invited local students in grades 6-12 to write either an original essay or a poem that addressed the strengths and experiences of a strong, independent woman. The entries were evaluated by an independent panel of eight judges. The following students were recognized and awarded cash prizes along with a certificate of recognition:
Grades 6-8 from Diamond Valley Middle School: First Place Poetry ($100) Megyn Holland; First Place Essay ($100) Kaitlyn Turner; Second Place Essay ($50) Breanna Rodriguez; Third Place Essay ($25) Hazel Hora.
Grades 9-12 from West Valley High School: First Place Poetry ($100)Jevford Barro; Second Place Poetry ($50) Alyssa Ibarra; Third Place Poetry ($25) Briana Ortega; First Place Essay ($100) Kristina Usenko; Second Place Essay ($50) Kashmier Taylor; Third Place Essay ($25) Evette Darensbourg.
The four first place winners’ entries will be sent to the De Anza district level of competition for the California Federation of Women’s Clubs Youth Writing Contest and winners there move on to the state level.
