Rock-and-roll band Three Dog Night once sang that “one is the loneliest number that you’ll ever do.” But sometimes one can be the most beautiful number you’ll ever do. Such was the case at Tahquitz High School last Friday afternoon as Beaumont High sent their varsity soccer girls down Lamb Canyon to play with the Lady Titans.
The Titan Canyon felt as cold as the rest of the valley looked, with a wind chill present as the game commenced. The Titans did a good job keeping the ball moving, and even made a few decent tries at the goal, but otherwise the first half was uneventful… and scoreless.
But Stephanie Hernandez did manage to shake things up in the second half, scoring the first goal of the game for Tahquitz with just eight minutes still in it. That goal would make the difference in this game, winning it for Tahquitz 1-nil.
Coach April Cordero knew her team would be clawing their way back in this game, what with the local hospital being a popular destination this season: “We have a lot of (injured girls) that are just coming back and they’re still not 100 percent. So I was a little worried about it, because Beaumont actually has been doing really well. But the girls really wanted it after their loss to (Citrus Hill).”
The Titans have one big reason to really want a win this week: San Jacinto. Tahquitz is headed to Tiger Stadium tomorrow to do battle. Which will prove to be a winning color: Orange or Green? Whichever’s your favorite color, wear it there tomorrow at 4:45 p.m.
