Once known as the king of bedroom films, Ron Jeremy is celebrating his first year as a standup comedian with an all-star show appearing at Derby’s Bar & Grill in Hemet on Friday, Oct. 13. Jeremy has had a long and varied career in show business. He was born in Queens, New York to upper middle class professionals (dad’s a physicist and mom’s a book editor). Although he is most known for his adult films, he has appeared in dozens of mainstream pictures.
What folks don’t know about him is awesome from any point of view. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and theater as well as a master’s in special education. His dream? To become a legitimate actor. His father encouraged him to get a solid education so that he would “have something to fall back on” in case Broadway let him down.
More known from his build than intellect, out of college he taught high school special education in New York schools, working with autistic children and teenage schizophrenics.
All that changed after a cover layout for Playgirl Magazine in 1978. He holds the Guinness Book of World Records for appearing in 2,000 films, including dozens of non-adult movies. His comedy show is more of a suggestive nature, unlike the current lounge-type comedians of today.
If you’re old enough and can remember Joe Penner and his “Wanna buy a duck,” routine, Bob Hope or Red Skelton’s “blue” comedy, you’ll be in for a treat. You could bring the whole family to this one. Even grandma would get in a belly laugh or two.
Just sayin’.
