Hamilton High hosts 6th annual mock interviews for students

The annual event is part of HUSD commitment to prepare students for college or career

Students and potential employers participate in Hamilton High School’s 6th annual Mock Interviews. The goal is to help students be prepared for job interviews.

Students enrolled in the Career Technical Education (CTE) program at Hamilton High School took part in mock job interviews on Nov. 16. The annual event is sponsored by the Hamilton High School CTE program and allows students to practice important skills to help them in their quest for employment.
The CTE team who set up the job-seekers’ practice session included Ryan Kleinvachter, Jane Recht, Robert Koerner, Alex Williams, Steve Crawford, and teachers and faculty at Hamilton High School. Twenty volunteer judges, including HUSD board member Stacey Bailey, were invited to mock interview more than 110 students for jobs in different industry-related fields including computer technician, food service, military, fire/sheriff department, welding, and auto mechanics. Each student had 10-20 minutes with their interviewer.
Prior to the mock job interviews, participating staff worked with students to help prepare them. Staff helped them fill out applications and write their résumés and cover letters, offered sample interview questions, and provided tips on proper interview attire. Students were given a list of career fields that would be represented and each one chose a field for which they would like to “apply.”
This program has been a staple at Hamilton High School for the past six years and provides students with guidance and the opportunity to prepare for the job process as it gives them a realistic experience, said Public Information Officer Alex Sponheim.
“Each student who participates receives valuable feedback that translates into future skills that they can use later in life during high school, college, and career,” she said.
The interviewers also enjoyed this event, added Sponheim. After the interviews, they debriefed their group of students, providing comments, suggestions, and even future interview strategies to help them be successful during a real job interview.
