On Monday Jan. 1, the Hemet Valley Medical Center welcomed into the world Karen Alexandra Morales, the first baby born to Hemet in 2018.
Karen Alexandra entered the world at 2:09 p.m. and weighed in at 7 lbs., 12 oz. She was 19 inches long. She was born with the help of staff in the medical center’s Family Birthing Center.
Proud mom Karen Morales held baby Karen as nurses, Cody, Lina, Shelly and Erin, presented her and her first child with a handmade “diaper cake,” which was created and decorated with baby items by the staff of the medical center’s Obstetrics (OB) Unit.

Gifts galore
OB nurses also presented mother and daughter with a large gift basket filled with many items including a new baby/toddler car seat, Pack ‘n Play Playard, and a baby bath unit with bath supplies. Among other items presented to mother and baby were lots of diapers, baby wipes, baby toys, gift cards and other useful items for newborns. Baby hats and blankets were handmade by some of the Hemet Volunteers. The medical center’s Nursery Nurse also provided a gift for the basket.

Let’s not forget baby number 2
The second baby of 2018 also was given a baby/toddler car seat and gift cards. Congratulations to Daniela Serna and her baby boy, Aaron. He was born Jan. 2 at 10:03 p.m. and weighed 8 lbs., 1 oz., and also was 19 inches long.
Thanks go to Hemet Target, Hemet Sears, both Hemet and San Jacinto Walmarts, and the Hemet Valley Medical Center employees and administrators for their generous contributions of gifts, cash, gift cards and safety car seats to make 2018’s first baby and her mom feel welcome in Hemet.
