David Hendren exhibition, Land of Lens at MSJC
The Mt. San Jacinto College Art Gallery is proud to announce a new solo exhibition by David Hendren titled Land of Lens on display from Jan. 17–Feb. 22. Gallery hours are from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. at the San Jacinto Campus Art Gallery, Bldg. 1400, 1499 N. State St., San Jacinto. This new exhibition features larger than life mixed-media figurative abstract sculptures. Hendren has had solo shows at Five Car Garage, Meliksetian/Briggs, Anat Ebgi Gallery, Public Fiction and Kim Light/Lightbox. He received a MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art and a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. (See story in Arts and Culture Section, A6, for an interview with Hendren.)

MSJC San Jacinto Singing Auditions
Auditions for the College Singers and Chamber Choir will be held at 4 p.m., Jan. 25 at the Mt. San Jacinto College San Jacinto campus, Rm. 1614, 1499 N. State St., 92583. Students, faculty, and the community are encouraged to bring a prepared piece of any genre music to the audition sponsored by the Department of Music. All levels of experience are welcome. Taste of the Valley & Business Expo
The Hemet/San Jacinto Valley Chamber of Commerce hosts “Taste of the Valley” from 3:30-6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 29 at Golden Village Palms RV Resort, 3600 W. Florida Ave., Hemet. Admission is free. Mt. San Jacinto College Blood Drive
The Beta Delta Omega Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is co-hosting a blood drive with LifeStream, the Blood Bank of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. on Jan. 30. Drive will be held in the quad area of the San Jacinto Campus, 1499 N. State St., San Jacinto. Donors will receive a $5 In-N-Out gift card. Combat veterans and their war dogs
The SAGE Society meeting from 1:30–3 p.m. on Feb. 13 will feature Jon Hemp, a Vietnam veteran and war dog handler. Hemp was in Vietnam a total of 16 months with a short stay in Japan to recover from wounds. He went back to Vietnam due to a shortage of dog handlers. Hemp was instrumental in getting the War Dog memorial statue at Camp Pendleton and is involved with the War Dog Ceremony held every year at March Air Field. He started the “War Daug Project” which honors all service war dog handlers to show appreciation for their service. Hemp will talk about his experience in Vietnam with sentry and scout dogs and with today’s war dog handlers. Meeting will be in the Ramona Room, behind Miller Jones Mortuary, 1505 W. Hemet Senior Computer Club
The club meets the third Monday of every month from 10 a.m.–noon at Valley-Wide Valle Vista Recreation Center. The club is open to anyone in the Hemet/San Jacinto area who would like to learn and share knowledge of computers, tablets, smartphones, etc. Valley-Wide Recreation Center, 43935 E. Celebrate Recovery meetings
Celebrate Recovery meets are held every week at the following locations:
Mondays, 6:30 p.m., San Jacinto Assembly of God, 300 W. First St., San Jacinto. Tuesdays, 6 p.m., Hemet Christian Assembly, 602 St. John Place, Hemet. Tuesdays, 7 p.m., Community Christian Church, 41762 Stetson Ave., Hemet. Saturdays, 6 p.m., Hemet Valley Baptist Church, 1480 N. Kirby St., San Jacinto.

Hemet Public Library
The following activities are held at the Hemet Public Library, 300 E. Latham Avenue.
– Bark for Books: First Friday of every month from 4–5 p.m. Practice reading skills by reading out loud to certified therapy dogs!
– Book Club: Director’s Bookshelf meets the third Thursday of every month at 1 p.m. in the director’s office.
– Diamond Valley Writers Guild: meets the fourth Saturday of every month from 9:30–11:30 a.m.
