Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District Board of Directors appointed a new director March 19 at the Rancho Bella Vista Community Center in French Valley.
Nick Schouten was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Frank Gorman, who served on the board for 11 years. The appointment was done after the review and interviews of five qualified applicants.
Schouten has been a committed resident of the San Jacinto Valley since 1969 and continues to be ingrained with community recreation with over 50 years of volunteer coaching. He was instrumental in developing the idea of a Recreation and Park District as a means to increase the quality of life in the San Jacinto Valley. He served as a Valley-Wide Board Member from 1973 to 2012, giving him the title of “longest serving elected official in Riverside County.”
