MSJC Women’s Empowerment Day Event
This event will be held on Thursday, May 10 from 11 a.m.–2 p.m. and is sponsored by the MSJC Diversity Committee, Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center (RARCC), Center Against Sexual Assault (CASA), and MSJC Judicial Affairs. The event will be held at the San Jacinto Campus Theater, Bldg. 1500, 1499 N. State St., San Jacinto. It will celebrate the accomplishments of local successful women who will present how they overcame obstacles and succeeded. CHP car seat safety check
The event is to educate parents on how to properly install car seats. CHP will also be inspecting car seats. Event is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on May 12 (weather permitting) at Burlington Store parking lot, 2171 W. Florida Ave., Hemet. The event is free. It is sponsored by CHP and the Hemet Woman’s Club.

Free paint drop-off event open to the public
PaintCare is hosting the event on Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m.-noon at the City of Hemet Corporation Yard, 3777 Industrial Ave., Hemet. PaintCare is a nonprofit organization established by paint manufacturers to provide convenient places to recycle leftover paint. Containers must have original labels; house paint and primers (latex or oil-based); stains; deck and concrete sealers; and clear finishes (e.g., varnishes and shellac). Jac Jacaruso to Perform at The Diamond Valley Arts Center
Guitarist and vocalist, Jac Jacaruso, is excited to return to the stage at The Diamond Valley Arts Center (DVAC), 123 N. Harvard St., Hemet. He will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 19. Doors open about 6:30 p.m. Jacaruso is a gifted musician who got his start in New York City where he honed his skills as an R&B singer, songwriter, and guitarist. He played in NYC clubs and studios at first, then he played with Desmond Child and with Billy Joel’s band. His talent and passion for music led to starting his own band. Jacaruso soon fell in love with jazz music, so his most recent work as a solo artist features both blues and jazz. He performs a fresh interpretation of tunes made popular by such artists as Peter Gabriel, John Mayer, Hall & Oates, Paul Simon, and Sting. Jacaruso is a unique member of a musical family. His father played the violin and the accordion. Jac’s son, Luca Jacaruso, is a highly talented jazz pianist and composer who is studying jazz in Graz, Austria. General admission is $20. DVAC members $15. Students $10 at the door. Chairs for Charity fundraiser
Tickets are still available for the inaugural “Chairs for Charity” live auction starting at 5 pm on Saturday, May 26 in Nelson Hall on the Idyllwild Arts Academy Campus, 52500 Temecula Rd., Idyllwild. Led by Michael Slocum, president of the Associates of Idyllwild Arts Foundation, this one-night-only live auction is part of the bigger 50th anniversary celebration. Tickets for the May 26 festivities are only $45 each and include dinner, beverages, music, silent auction, and live auction. Dinner will be catered by Carte Blanche Gourmet Tacos with music provided by DJ Billy Sheppard. The live auction will feature four of the 15 custom created chairs. There will also be a silent auction that will feature art, event tickets, wine baskets, autographed posters, and much more. Attendees may continue to bid online for all other available chairs. Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the scholarship funds for the Idyllwild Arts Academy and summer program.
