Over 50 volunteers from local churches of all denominations worked on Saturday, May 12, the day before Mother’s Day, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in San Jacinto to prepare 2,000 bouquets of roses for sale on Mother’s Day.
The bouquets were sold through members at the six churches who participated in the project including St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on the Soboba reservation, Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Holy Spirit Catholic Church, St. Paul’s City Church, and Cornerstone Church.
Mother’s Day, bouquets were purchased for $10. The sales are projected to generate over $5,000 to be donated to new mother-support centers including Birth Choice of Hemet at 3989 W. Stetson Ave., Suite 200, Hemet, Calif. 92545 (951-766-6100).
Volunteers working at the St. Hyacinth’s Academy at the back of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church spent about half a day assembling the bouquets. Remarks like “I’m really happy that I can do this for the mothers,” and, “The baby and new mommy clinic needs our support,” could be heard by many of the volunteers.
St. Anthony Catholic Church is located at 630 S. Santa Fe Ave. in San Jacinto.
