The Premier Girls Fastpitch SoCal National Qualifier took over the diamonds at Diamond Valley Lake the weekend of June 15-17
Even though the San Jacinto Valley isn’t exactly a tourist hot spot in the summer, we do occasionally get a few VIPs rolling in. During the weekend of Friday, June 15 – Sunday June 17, those VIPs were here for the Premier Girls Fastpitch 2018 SoCal National Qualifier.
Over 50 teams took part in this 18-and-under division qualifier at Diamond Valley Lake Sports complex, in addition to teams who played at 14-and-under games held in Menifee and 16-and-under in Irvine the same weekend. The Hemet competition would be whittled down to four premier qualifiers and two platinum ones. These winners will compete in the tournament finals in Huntington Beach and Irvine in July and August.
Tournament Director Ernie Lievanos is thankful for the help of Valley-Wide RPD and to those individuals who sponsored this event, as well as for the relatively cool temperatures they got to play in. “We actually (had) pretty good weather this weekend!”
The game does have some new rules this year, including the two-feet rule which means the pitchers must have both feet on their plate as they pitch. Otherwise the game is largely the same as ever.
After three hard-fought days, here’s how things turned out:
Premier Berths went to the NorCal Firecrackers of Sjolie, Team Explosion of Jacobson, SoCal Athletics Marinakis/Jendro and California Cruisers AE
Platinum Berths were claimed by the Batbusters of Lara and SoCal Athletics Thompson teams
Congratulations to these teams for advancing in this year’s PGF tournament. Let us all hope the weather in Orange County treats them well at the finals in July and August.
