On the evening of July 12, a pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing a poorly lit part of Menlo Ave. in Hemet.
The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Jesse Herrera according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Coroner Report. When Hemet Police and Fire crew arrived at the scene, they discovered Herrera lying in the street and a GMC pick-up parked nearby.
Emergency responders immediately took necessary measures to save Herrera’s life but, ultimately, he was pronounced dead on the scene at approximately 9:55 p.m. after succumbing to his injuries.
A little after 9 p.m. last Thursday, Herrera was crossing Menlo Ave without using a crosswalk in a darker part of the roadway. A GMC Sierra pick-up truck was traveling in the eastbound lane when it struck the pedestrian. The driver of the vehicle apparently waited nervously on the scene for paramedics to arrive and was cooperative with investigating officials.
Officials temporarily closed down Menlo Ave between Sante Fe St. and Haley Way for hours pending the investigation. The driver was not suspected of a DUI. No further information has been released at this time.
