■ Chronicle News Staff
A Hemet man and a woman from Menifee died in a head-on crash Tuesday night along Domenigoni Parkway, the CHP reported. The bizarre crash occurred shortly before 9 p.m. near the intersection of Domenigoni Parkway, about a half mile east of Patterson Avenue in Winchester, according to a CHP press release.
The woman was identified as Lorraine Johansen, 81, of Menifee, according to the Riverside County Coroner. She was headed west on Domenigoni in a 2016 Toyota Corolla when a car headed in the opposite direction suddenly crossed over the dirt center divider and plowed into the front of her car, according to the CHP. That vehicle, a 2000 Saturn Ion, was driven by an 82-year-old Hemet man who died at the scene. His name is still being withheld pending notification of relatives. The CHP has yet no explanation of why the man’s car veered off course.
Johansen initially survived the crash and was taken to Menifee Valley Medical Center but died later in the hospital. Officers said there were no passengers in either vehicle.
