Sierra Dawn Rotary holding annual Sock Hop
The Sierra Dawn Rotary will be holding their annual Sock Hop on Aug 17 from 5 – 9 p.m. in Clubhouse #4 located on San Marcos Drive in Hemet. The price is $4 for Sierra Dawn Residents and $5 for all others. The music for this event will provided by DJ Russ Utz playing the hits of the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s plus taking requests. Food including hot dogs, hamburgers, grilled cheese and milkshakes/ malts will be for sale. There will also be a dance contest.
Sierra Dawn Rotary is a part of Sunset Rotary and are always looking for new members. Meetings are the second Monday of the month at noon and the fourth Monday of the month at 5:30 p.m. at Clubhouse #3 on the corner of Lyon and San Marcos. The club has donated school supplies, jackets and shoes to Jacob Wiens Elementary, raised money for the San Jacinto Valley Academy Interact club and painted the red curbs in Sierra Dawn. Wednesday Night Dances at Hemet West
In July and August, the following bands will be playing for the popular senior Wednesday Night Dances at Hemet West, 5001 W. Florida Ave., Hemet.
Aug 8 Rhonda and Showdown. Western theme.
Aug 15 Rainbow Cottage. Hawaiian Luau theme.
Aug 22 Ron and Diane.
Aug 29 Country Sounds.
The Wednesday night dances are from 6:30 – 9:30 p.m. Admission is $6 per person, proper attire is required, and alcohol is not allowed. Opportunity drawings offer free tickets. Tables will have snacks, pitchers of water, and freshly brewed tea and coffee is available.

Sunset Rotary presents guest speakers
The Sunset Rotary meets every Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m. at the Diamond Valley Arts Center on Harvard street in Hemet. They often have guest speakers and the meetings are open to the public. On Wednesday, Aug 15, the speaker is Chuck Washington, supervisor of our district.
On Wednesday, Aug 22, the speaker will be from CASA (the Center Against Sexual Assault) SW Riverside County. The topic of the speech will be Human Trafficking, phone apps and internet sites that draw in children and allow them to be kidnapped.
Sunset Rotary is a club of Rotary International, a service club that does projects in our community, our country and throughout the world. Rotary is always looking for new members, and invites those interested to attend a meeting and see what Rotary is all about.
