Homeless Outreach Team Volunteers
About this Group: We wish to grow and make a difference in helping the community. Please make the commitment to be as active in HOT Team participation as your schedule will allow before deciding to join the group. Our ability to expand and improve in what we are doing is greatly enhanced by increasing the activities we currently have in place, as well as developing future activities. Some of our current needs are:
Business Outreach Volunteers: Team members are needed to visit local businesses and conduct surveys to determine what problems are being encountered by businesses related to panhandling and transient issues, identifying what the businesses have found to be helpful in providing their customers a safe shopping environment, and providing information on what the Know Where It Goes movement is doing to help them.
Community Education Volunteers: We are in the process to put in place the necessary elements needed for Know Where It Goes community education outreach. Volunteers will share information and answer questions from kiosks located at different shopping centers throughout Hemet on a rotating basis. Times and dates are yet to be determined.
Facebook/Online Volunteers: This group is a working forum, where members and our service organizations post what their volunteer needs are and make requests from our volunteers to assist in urgent projects. The posts will give a brief description of what the volunteers can do pitch in immediately to assist. The group is also a place to share resources, keep in contact with other team members, share the successes our service organizations with their clients while appropriately maintaining their privacy, and discuss fundraising efforts with our service organizations.
Advocacy/Case Management: Volunteers work primarily with Stacie Olson, founder of Project Home II/Hemet, to determine client needs and to direct them to the appropriate service organizations or resources to assist in getting their needs met. Intake information is completed by phone and conveniently can be done from your home. We are always in need of advocates, and training can be arranged for those interesting in learning the advocacy/case management process.
Street Outreach Teams: Volunteers make direct contact with homeless individuals to encourage them to reach out for help in getting out of the cycle of homelessness.
