San Jacinto Community Center gifts elderly with food
■ By Dennis Fletcher / Contributed
Hot lunches are served Monday through Friday at the Senior Center located in the San Jacinto Community Center. On Aug 1, the seniors in attendance received a nice surprise when free food was given away to the many lucky winners in attendance. Well, actually all who wanted to win had won.
Last month, the ticket numbers were called out by Diane Cartier, long-time volunteer at the Senior Center. The food distribution was under the watchful eye of Mille Riquelme, Site Manager for the Senior Center.
Visitors to the Senior Center, that provides hot lunches during the week to seniors aged 60 and above, are often treated to different experiences like live music provided by Nick and Ellen Burkey (on most Mondays), line dancing classes, lectures on safety or health issues, and other useful treats.
The Senior Center’s food operation is under the capable management of Family Service Association (FSA) and the immediate guidance of Michelle Granger, Food Services Director for FSA. See: www.facebook.com/FamilyServiceAssociation or (951) 686-1096.
The San Jacinto Community Center is located at 625 S. Pico Avenue, in San Jacinto. For more information call 951-654-7212. Their operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The center provides meals, games and programs for seniors plus services and information to the public.
Hot meals are served Monday through Friday to seniors 60 and over for a suggested donation of three dollars. Volunteers for meal service are always needed. To volunteer, contact Kathy Knox at 951-686-1096.
