Lady Titans fend off the Lancers

Tahquitz’ volleyball girls defeated Lakeside, 3-0

When it comes to high school sports, you might not realize just how strong a team’s character is unless you show up to one of their games. The Tahquitz High School volleyball girls found this out on Thursday, Aug 30, as friends and family, including members of the football team, came out in droves to support them as they took on the Lakeside Lady Lancers.
The Lady Titans struggled against the Lancers in set one, as Lakeside took an early lead. But the Titans kept their heads in the game and would soon level with the Lancers, edging them out 25-23.
With fans on both sides of the gymnasium creating noise pollution, set two commenced. In the early part of this set, both teams saw noticeable errors in execution. Nonetheless, these competitors could not be fazed. In the end, the Titans pulled out the win 25-20, putting pressure on the Lancers.
Despite these two narrow wins, it really was in set three where the Titans really came alive; As the Lancers’ nerves started showing signs of fraying, the Titans found Lakeside’s weak points and staged attack after attack. With a final score of 25-7, Tahquitz’ girls had this and had it good.
Coach Janette Placencia says this win was a result of good teamwork; “They finally were able to come together as a team, which is what we’re trying to (accomplish), but they usually do it around the third set.”
Part of keeping any team in top shape is about teammates supporting one another. Going above and beyond that call of duty was Captain Caitlin Cunningham, who could be observed backing her fellow Titans up during this match. “That is exactly why she is Team Captain! She has been a positive force all three years; She is the one I go to when somebody is having a bad day.”
As of press time, this win helped the Titans improve to a season record of 4-4.
