Parents who are looking for a safe, fun, Halloween event can be assured that the Trinity Lutheran Church Trunk-n-Treat event will be the answer to their quest, according to event committee member Linda St. Jean. “We have established a good reputation with people who came previous years,” says Linda, “People know they will have a safe, fun time.”
Trunk-n-Treat is a free, open-to-the-public event that will be held Oct. 31 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church north parking lot, 191 S. Columbia Street, in Hemet.
St. Jean says that what makes Trunk-n-Treat safer than going door-to-door is that parents can keep an eye on their kids. “Parents can sit and have free hot dogs and hot apple cider and listen to music, while they watch their kids participate in games, contests, and fill their bags with treats.”
Trunk-n-Treat Committee Chairperson Kathie Christensen says Trunk-n-Treat has more activities than going door-to-door. “The kids can participate in a costume parade and contests for different age ranges,” says Christensen. “Everyone in the contest gets a small prize, but the best costumes get the best prizes.”
According to Christensen, the kids can also win prizes for participation in a ball toss as well as plenty of other games. Trunk-n-Treat Committee Member Christine Denton says they are expecting a well-attended event. “We expect it to be at least as big as last year, if not bigger,” says Denton. “We have more signed up this year.”
Christensen says there are also more volunteers this year. “Jim Lineberger, director of the Community Pantry and his crew are setting up and helping,” she reported, “And we have church volunteers.”
“Trunk-n-Treat was set up as a community outreach event,” notes St. Jean, “It is mainly funded by a $250 donation from THRIVENT, a nonprofit investment firm, and from candy donations from Trinity Lutheran Church members.”
Other committee members involved are: Katie Lowery, Sherri Lowery, Johne Hicks, Jo Neely and Mary Hutton.
