A School Resource Officer from the Hemet Police was attacked by students when a fight broke out last Wednesday at West Valley High School.
On Oct. 17, several students began fighting on the campus of WVHS. School staff and a Hemet Police officer assigned as the SRO attempted to defuse the situation. The officer saw one student preparing to assault another and grabbed her by the arm, telling her to stop. That student then began yelling at the officer and pulling away from him. The officer and student ended up falling to the ground. Another student ran up and began kicking and punching the officer in the back while he was down. The SRO requested emergency assistance and additional officers responded to the area. Within minutes, several Hemet Police officers arrived on scene and began dispersing the crowd.
Ultimately four juvenile students and one adult student were arrested for a variety of charges including: assaulting school staff, assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and resisting arrest by threat or violence. The juveniles were later transported to the Riverside County Juvenile Hall and the adult was transported to the Riverside County Jail.
There were no significant injuries reported. No further information will be released at this time.
