Rear-end collision sends one driver to hospital
■ Chronicle News / Staff
One person was hospitalized Saturday, Dec. 1, following a rear-end crash at Florida Avenue and Carmalita Street in front of City Nails and Spa in which a Jeep reportedly plowed into the back of a Chevy Silverado pickup sending the Jeep flying out of control and landing on its roof.
Witnesses told police the pickup was stopped at the intersection waiting for the light to change when the Jeep failed to stop and smashed into the rear of it causing heavy damage to both vehicles. By the time paramedics arrived, both drivers had managed to escape from their vehicles and could be evaluated by paramedics who sent the driver of the Jeep to Hemet Valley Medical Center for treatment.
The debris from the crash blocked the westbound lanes of Florida Avenue following the 8:45 p.m. crash until tow-truck drivers could right the Jeep and tow both vehicles off the highway. No cause of the crash has been established, and police continue to investigate the incident.
