East Hemet couple shocked by backyard deviant
■ Chronicle News Staff
Police and sheriff’s deputies are looking for a peeping Tom who was captured on video exposing himself outside a couple’s bedroom window in East Hemet.
Sheriff’s deputies said the man was confronted by the male of the house on Cherrywood Drive in the unincorporated area of Riverside County just east of the Hemet city limits. The intruder, who hopped a fence to gain access to the couple’s yard, escaped following the 4:30 a.m. confrontation.
The woman of the house told police she had never seen the man before, but residents are worried he might live in the neighborhood.
Apparently the room into which the man was peeping wasn’t occupied, although blinds were missing from the window.
The video, which captured the prowler lurking around for several minutes, then hiding behind some bushes, was broadcast by multiple Los Angeles area TV news stations.
Police are concerned when they hear reports of such behavior because known criminals have reported starting their sexually deviant and violent lifestyles by peeping through people’s windows at night when occupants least suspect it.
Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to contact the Riverside County Sherrif’s Department.
