FATAL TRAFFIC COLLISION

On Tuesday, May 02, 2017, at 5:18 AM, a fatal traffic collision occurred on San Jacinto Avenue near Commonwealth Avenue in San Jacinto. A Chevrolet Suburban was traveling south on San Jacinto Avenue and struck a pedestrian that was in the roadway. The pedestrian, a 21-year-old male resident of Hemet, was pronounced deceased at the scene by paramedics. The driver of the vehicle was identified as a 58-year-old male resident of San Jacinto. There are no initial indications alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision. Anyone with information about this collision is urged to contact Deputy Cortez or Deputy Cox at the San Jacinto Police Station, Traffic Division (951) 537-6411. The San Jacinto Police Department encourages pedestrians to follow the rules of the road, cross at crosswalks or intersections, and obey signs and signals. Pedestrians should make eye contact with drivers as they approach, never assume a driver sees you. Drivers are encouraged to slow down and look out for pedestrians, especially in hard-to-see conditions such as night or in bad weather.

SEXUAL PREDATOR ARREST

On Wednesday, May 3, 2017, investigators from the San Jacinto Police Department were conducting surveillance in the 300 Block of Hazeldell Ave., San Jacinto, in reference to a reported sexual predator in the area. Around 5:30 am, Investigators saw a Hispanic male matching the suspect’s description looking through windows of a residence. Officers from the San Jacinto Police Department arrested Ramon Rojas, 46 years of San Jacinto, for “peeping” into an inhabited dwelling and a violation of probation for the same offense. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department would like to remind the public to secure doors and windows whenever possible. To be aware of subjects loitering in the area, while making note of clothing or vehicles associated with those subjects. HOMICIDE, NOT MOTOR VEHICLE COLLISION, CAUSED SAN JACINTO DEATH

Two people were arrested in connection with the death of Latoya Calhoun, 40, residence unknown, who was originally thought to be the victim of a motor vehicle collision on Esplanade Avenue in San Jacinto. On April 29, officers from the San Jacinto Police Department responded to a report of a female body found the near the roadway. A preliminary examination was conducted by the Coroner’s Office, who determined that Calhoun was the victim of a homicide based on gunshot wounds she received. The Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit assumed the investigation with the assistance of the San Jacinto Police Department. Based on the results of their investigation, 40-year-old Traevon Stewart of Banning was arrested for homicide. Michael Bird, 62, was arrested as an accessory.
